This milestone project, developed in collaboration with Shanghai Chengtou Holding, is located within the Kuanting Xuhui Community. Unlike pet-themed parks or commercial pet-friendly venues, this initiative is embedded in a real residential environment, where people and pets live together, share public spaces, and participate in community life as a natural part of daily routines. It represents a shift from isolated pet-friendly features to a systematic, full-cycle human–pet friendly living model.

During January 24–25, the Kuanting Xuhui Community hosted the “Kuanting Splendor · Pet-Friendly New Year Festival,” a community-centered event that combined traditional Chinese New Year culture with modern pet lifestyles. Families, neighbors, and pets gathered in shared spaces, creating scenes of children playing with dogs, cats strolling alongside festive market stalls, and residents engaging in cultural activities together with their companion animals.

For Petstar, the event was not simply a seasonal celebration. It served as a real-world demonstration of how human–pet friendly concepts can be seamlessly integrated into everyday living environments. As Petstar Chairman Xue Yuanchao noted during the event, “Human–pet friendliness should not be a slogan. It should be something people can experience naturally in their daily lives.”

As the first physical project under the strategic partnership between Petstar and Shanghai Chengtou Holding, the Kuanting Xuhui Community was designed from the outset with human–pet coexistence in mind. This approach introduces a new benchmark for pet-inclusive rental housing in urban China, offering insights into how residential developers can respond to changing household structures and rising pet ownership rates.

At the heart of the community lies the 258 Pet-Friendly Neighborhood Center, which functions as a shared social hub for residents and their pets. The center provides practical services such as pet stroller rentals, temporary pet care, and educational initiatives related to responsible pet ownership.

More importantly, it transforms the abstract idea of “pet-friendly services” into tangible daily convenience. By integrating these services into the community’s core infrastructure, the project demonstrates how human–pet friendliness can become a standard part of residential operations rather than an added feature.

Cultural Integration Through Pet-friendly Community Events

To mark the launch of the community, Petstar curated a large-scale pet-friendly New Year market that blended traditional culture with contemporary pet consumption. Built around the theme of “intangible cultural heritage aesthetics meets pet lifestyles,” the market showcased Petstar’s five in-house brands across multiple themed zones.

Residents and visitors participated in hands-on cultural workshops, pet health consultations, adoption advocacy programs, and interactive human–pet games. Installations such as lantern riddle corridors and community wish trees created immersive cultural experiences, allowing traditional festive customs to evolve within a pet-inclusive social context.

By connecting cultural expression with pet-friendly scenarios, Petstar demonstrated how community events can foster emotional engagement while supporting new consumption models within the pet industry.

A dedicated community IP, “KuanKuan and Friends,” serves as a friendly symbol of pet-inclusive values, while public welfare displays and interactive installations reinforce positive behavioral norms. Together, these elements form a closed-loop ecosystem that connects physical infrastructure, social behavior, and emotional belonging.

The partnership aims to refine operational standards, service models, and design frameworks that can be replicated across future projects.

Looking ahead, both parties plan to translate practical experience into industry guidelines, supporting wider adoption of human–pet friendly concepts in residential, commercial, and mixed-use developments.

As Chairman Xue Yuanchao emphasized, the pet economy is fundamentally an “economy of love.” The human–pet friendly community initiative in Shanghai is a concrete expression of that philosophy—one that addresses emotional needs, lifestyle evolution, and the relationship between individuals, pets, and the cities they inhabit.

For Petstar, this project represents more than a single community. It is a blueprint for how pet-inclusive values can be embedded into urban living at scale.
