Petstar & Yuyuan Lantern Festival: Embarking on a Cultural Journey to Thailand!
What kind of sparks will fly when pets meet the nationally recognized intangible cultural heritage—the Yuyuan Lantern Festival? Let’s turn our attention to the upcoming [2025 Mythical Beings of Mountains and Seas” Yuyuan Lantern Festival & China–Thailand Cultural Month]!
From June 27 to August 15, Petstar, the flagship brand under Tianyuan Pet, will follow the Yuyuan Lantern Festival to ICONSIAM, the iconic commercial landmark in Bangkok, Thailand. Inspired by the ancient Chinese mythological classic The Classic of Mountains and Seas, this event will blend Chinese and Thai cultures in a fantastical lantern show, paying tribute to the 50th anniversary of China–Thailand diplomatic relations.
This is more than just a feast of light and shadow—it’s an immersive journey of Eastern aesthetics, designed to be enjoyed by both humans and their pets.
From Paris to Bangkok: Encountering the “Mythical Beings of Mountains and Seas”
The Yuyuan Lantern Festival has become synonymous with its standout IP, The Fantastic Journey of Mountains and Seas. From Chinese zodiac themes to mythical storytelling, this lantern festival showcases a powerful cultural narrative, acting as a bridge between the past and the future, between China and the world.
Since 2023, the Yuyuan Lantern Festival has drawn creative inspiration from The Classic of Mountains and Seas, forming the core theme, The Fantastic Journey of Mountains and Seas. For three consecutive years, this Shanghai-based celebration has attracted nearly 4 million visitors during each Chinese New Year period, becoming one of the most influential traditional cultural events in the city.
In December 2023, the festival made its international debut in Paris, France, launching the overseas theme Mythical Beings of Mountains and Seas. With over 200,000 local attendees and a global media reach of 1.5 billion impressions, it became a benchmark case for showcasing Chinese culture to the world.
Now, the Yuyuan Lantern Festival is heading to Bangkok, continuing the Mythical Beings narrative. The exhibition will bring mythical creatures and exotic plants from The Classic of Mountains and Seas to life using traditional lantern craftsmanship and modern lighting technologies. Integrating Thai cultural elements, the lanterns will float along the Chao Phraya River, creating a dreamlike wonderland where visitors from both nations can share in the magic of light and legend.
From Fashion Shows to Lantern Fairs: Global Expressions of Eastern Aesthetics
Reinterpreting traditional culture for contemporary life has always been the essence of the Yuyuan Lantern Festival. And in many ways, this spirit aligns with Petstar’s mission.
As a pioneer in “human-pet lifestyle aesthetics,” Petstar embraces fashion, beauty, and art, incorporating traditional Chinese cultural elements into its brand and creating one-of-a-kind experiences for pet lovers.
In October 2024, during Shanghai Pet Fashion Week, Petstar introduced Hanfu (traditional Chinese clothing) into pet apparel, delivering the only oriental-themed runway show of the event.
In Spring Festival 2025, the Year of the Snake, Petstar launched its Lion Dance-themed pet beds and cat trees, showcasing the essence of Chinese traditions. These designs entered pet-friendly hotels in Malaysia, earning praise from domestic and international markets and validating the commercial value of cultural innovation.
In May 2025, Petstar once again captivated audiences at the Chinese Brand Day Gala, collaborating with singer-actress Jiang Yun and the Petstar fashion troupe to present “Starry Silk Journey: A Human-Pet Wardrobe Tale,” turning culture into an interactive experience and advancing the pet industry through cultural empowerment.
The vitality of culture lies in reimagining it for the present. By weaving Eastern aesthetic elements into modern brand design, Petstar not only preserves cultural heritage but also pioneers a new visual language that resonates globally.
This time, by joining the Yuyuan Lantern Festival in Thailand, Petstar will bring “Eastern aesthetics” into pet living, infusing traditional elements like the Twenty-Four Solar Terms and Chinese landscapes into its product designs. Together, we aim to deliver a cross-cultural, soul-stirring experience for pet lovers in both China and Thailand, as well as travelers from around the world.
